By Max Bellamy Are you afraid to do Internet transactions because youre still worried that your credit card information may be stolen online? Do not let your doubts cripple you. Fraud protection is now widely available, especially against identity theft. Here are some of the methods that credit card companies and legitimate online merchants implement to protect you and your loved ones from fraud. Understanding them will eventually lessen your anxiety. Address verification is one. Credit card companies are now more careful when approving use, especially in online transactions they now verify the billing address, age and identity of the cardholder in real time, before the transaction is completed. Many credit card companies now also require the user to input a code found on the strip at the back of the card before a sale is completed. How does this help? Studies show that fraudsters usually only have the credit card number, not the actual card, and therefore cannot see the code printed on the card. Without the code, they cannot use the credit card number to purchase. Secure socket layer (SSL) technology wards off computer hackers and other criminals from your credit card data by using encryption methods that enable secure movement of your credit card information from one location to the next. While these technologies have significantly reduced fraud, they are not foolproof, and at the end of the day, you are responsible for your own safety. Be alert, because you are not only prone to fraud through the Internet some criminals literally dig through your trash to get information. Simple measures such as properly filing and keeping your financial records, avoiding dubious sites and asking for regular reports from your bank are all helpful. Use common sense when using your credit card, and take active steps to improve your homes privacy. Fraud provides detailed information on Fraud, Fraud Protection, Investment Fraud, Credit Card Fraud and more. Fraud is affiliated with Identity Theft Insurance. Best Weight Loss Programs for Combating Fat
By Nathalie Fiset It's coming. The signs are already everywhere and you just know the inevitable. With the market brimming with calorie- laden processed foodstuffs combined with the sedentary lifestyle of today, more and more people are facing the problem of getting fat. Not just plain fat- obese. Obesity can't all be that bad if it's just the mocking and the inability to do most normal things like running and climbing a long length of stairs then again, with obesity comes high blood pressure, heart diseases, respiratory problems, diabetes and arthritis among other ailments. If you want to live long enough to enjoy your golden years, gear up for another version of the Battle of the Bulge. Obesity does not choose its victims. It can sink in as early as the age of six and decreases life expectancy by an average of 7- 20%, not to forget that the pollution and stress will make those numbers rise even higher. Factors to obesity include age, gender, genetics, stress, lifestyle and of course, food. Most weight loss programs target the elimination of unnecessary calories or those calories beyond a person's required basal metabolism- that's the amount of calories needed to keep a person's basic bodily functions up and running normally. However, with the fads and trends of "Kate Moss" models, some programs go as far as starvation and gastric bypasses. These are not recommended for a lot of reasons but let's enumerate some for good measure: 1) Quick weight loss tactics only mean quick weight loss- not permanent, not long- term and not healthy. 2) Complications can and will arise from drastic measures beginning with the lack of nutrients. Besides, obese people usually don't do well under the knife unless the doctors say so. 3) Do you really want liposuction? Or cutting off a part of your stomach or intestine? Some programs focus on removing the sources of fat from a person's diet. The Eat More, Weigh Less does just that by encouraging fruits, vegetables, whole grains and little meat without any caloric restrictions whatsoever as long as the fat content falls below 10% of what you eat. The Pritkin diet also goes along these lines. But before choosing any of these diets, one must consider that fat- the unsaturated kind- is also essential to our body. Some critics have said that these diets are not for everyone, especially those who have high- fat bodies, as the diet will only lead to an inadequacy in fatty acids. The Atkins diet promotes protein since Dr. Robert Atkins believes that carbohydrates are the main causes of obesity. The diet would allot a person meals consisting of 36% protein, 8% carbohydrates, 53% fat or for maintenance 24% protein, 40% fat, 31% carbohydrates. Another popular diet called the South Beach diet also makes meat a hero by advocating foodstuffs that are high in protein, high in fiber, low in carbohydrates and low in animal fats. Although the South Beach diet was developed for those with a high risk of getting diabetes or heart diseases, the aforementioned diet does not balance the basic food groups. Then there's the McDougall Project for Maximum Weight Loss, which is basically a vegan diet. Think greens and yellows as these should make up 1/3 of what you eat. Another example is the Weight Watchers Winning Points program. Based on your statistics and details, the program will allot you "points" that you can use when choosing what to eat. All you have to do is to remain within that range by taking care to select what's right. Vegetables almost have an equivalent of 0 while fruits have 1-2 points per serving. Complex carbohydrates and fats have the highest. What you can do to get the best program for you is get to the root of the problem and attack from that point. Be idealistic when setting goals. The weight lost per week should fall in the range of - 2 lbs and not exceeding 3. It will be slow at first. Weight lost during the early stages will be mostly water fat so a doctor's supervision is really needed if you plan on losing a lot of pounds. The body will adapt quickly to the diet so prep up the arsenal with a combination of aerobic (running) and anaerobic (weight training) exercise. In order to maintain this, exercise for at least 15- 30 minutes in increasing increments per day. The program should also include help for when hunger anxiety attacks and depression urges you to binge. Losing weight involves the mindset too. Those are just some examples of diet programs, which promise weight loss. But here's catch, what works for others may not work for you. For example, there's such a diet that dictates what you can and can't eat based on your blood type. One can't guarantee same results on such general terms. Weight and build depends on a lot of factors and not just on a single basis as blood type. Word of advice: have a weight loss program tailored for you. Specialists can aid you on this one and with their supervision you will win this fight! Dr Nathalie Fiset is a family doctor and a certified hypnotherapist. If My Work is Good Enough
By Kelly O'Brien "If My Work is Good Enough, I Shouldn't Have to Market, Right?" Don't you think that good work should speak for itself...that
if you're good enough at what you do, you shouldn't have to
hustle up business? I've been working with a lot of really Smart People lately.
Physicists, Economists, Chemists, Electrical Engineers,
Programmers, Researchers and highly educated professionals of
many kinds. These folks are at the top of their game and
world-class contributors in their chosen field. Here are some of things they've said to me about marketing: "If you're good, the money will come; we're above the money
game." "It feels sleazy to have to sell our market impact..." "Isn't there an implied value to what we do? Why do we have to
market it?" "Yes, I'm angry that I have to market. It's not why I chose
this career." If you can relate to any of these statements, you're not alone.
Even these really Smart People have to face the harsh reality
that great work can't protect them from the "M Word"
(marketing). Whether you've taken an entrepreneurial route, or
work inside a large organization, marketing is a life skill
that's essential for survival. I remember fighting this reality early on in my professional
career, limping along and barely surviving as a business
because we were in denial about the reality of our situation:
that if we didn't step up and figure out how to attract more
clients, we'd be out of business. Of course it wasn't until I was in a whole lot of pain (i.e.,
cash flow was a problem) that I changed my behavior. I had a
choice to make: figure out how to bring in more clients or
perish! If you want to get your professional services understood,
valued, and used in the marketplace, ignoring this
responsibility is not an option. So as a Smart Person, do what
comes naturally: LEARN your way out of your problem. We're all on a learning curve about something, regardless of
PhDs, technical expertise, or years of professional success.
For many professionals, finding yourself at the bottom of the
Marketing Learning Curve is a frustrating experience. To make
matters worse, your target clients are on a steep learning
curve about the value of you and your work! So the key is to move both yourself and your target clients up
the learning curve. And knowing how to market, then skillfully
applying this knowledge to your target audience is what will
get you there. Here are the four stages you have to go through (picture a
staircase or ladder, with one stage on each level). In turn,
you can take your target clients through these stages to learn
about you and your firm: Stage 1: Unconsciously Incompetent. In other words, you're
clueless. This is when you don't know what you don't know. For
you, it could be not understanding the driving principles
behind effectively marketing a professional service...or the 5
P's of marketing a professional service that you must follow,
in exact order, if you wish to be successful. For your target
clients, it could be that they don't know you exist or that
they have no idea what problems you can help them solve.
Ignorance can be bliss, but it won't get you more clients! Stage 2: Consciously Incompetent. Now you're anxious. You've
become aware of what you don't know. Reading this article could
move you to this stage. Witnessing a colleague or competitor
win a contract that you missed out on could do it. For your
target clients, this could happen if you do a free or low-cost
assessment of their needs, or give them a short case study
illustrating other client successes that they've not been able
to achieve on their own. Bottom line: you're more motivated to
close the gap between your current state (in pain) and your
desired state (pain-free and successful). Stage 3: Consciously Competent. Armed with new knowledge,
you're starting to feel more confident. With some effort,
coaching, courage to try new things, and small successes,
you're starting to get better results for your efforts to
attract more clients. It still takes a conscious effort to do
the right things, but you're on your way. For your target
clients, this stage means that they see "What's In It For Them"
to do business with you, are confident that you can solve their
problem better than anyone else, trust that you'll not let them
down, and see a clear path of action to get their needs met.
This is a good place to be, because it means there's a good
chance that you'll close the deal. Stage 4: Unconsciously Competent. Like tying your shoes, this
is when it all feels natural and easy. You're probably here in
your chosen field of expertise. With the right approach and
accumulated successes under your belt, you'll get here in your
ability to attract more clients. Your target clients are here
only after they've gotten the results they want and can solidly
trust their relationship with you over the long haul. They
voluntarily and enthusiastically refer you to others. They
eagerly ask about and await your next solution or offer of how
to continue helping them. This is a blissful place to be and
will get you more clients than you ever thought possible! Facing your "marketing reality" can be a tough pill to swallow.
To make this easier, give these things a try: * Start with increasing your knowledge. Read some articles
about marketing in your particular field that you might not
normally bother with. Attend a talk or workshop about marketing
that typically wouldn't make it into your schedule. Expose
yourself to new ideas and fresh knowledge. A good place to
start is my free articles at: http://www.turningpointemarketing.com/free_resources/articles.html * Next, pick one new thing that you've learned and schedule it
into your calendar to try. Start small, get some successes
under your belt, and keep moving. Aim for one new marketing
action every week. * As you start experiencing better results from your actions,
you'll notice a shift in how you feel toward marketing. It
won't feel like such a burden. It'll feel like a natural part
of what you do. It won't be "someone else's job." You'll
actually start to enjoy it (trust me, it can happen - I used to
HATE this stuff!). * Be patient with yourself and with the process. You didn't
become an industry expert overnight, nor will you become a
great marketer instantly. If you really want the freedom to do
the work you love, you've got to commit to the life skill of
funding your passion for the long haul. * Don't let naivet or arrogance stand in your way. Marketing
is not about hustling, twisting arms, misleading, or shameless
promotion. It is about sharing what you know with the right
target clients, in a way that they can understand and see the
value for themselves in the good work you do. A very wise and successful business professional recently told
me the key to his success: being willing to do the tasks that
most other people aren't willing to do - even if you don't want
to do them. Marketing may not be as difficult as your chosen
profession, but it's still a stretch for many of us. Your
willingness to try new things that most others won't, already
puts you ahead. (c) TurningPointe Marketing, Inc. All rights reserved.

Why You Never Have To Pay Retail Prices For Anything - Ever Again
By Tukshad Engineer I step into my local mall, and into a leading top brand clothes store. I see a jumper I like and while feeling the soft material casually lift up the price tag - and I almost feint with disbelief. How much??? That's more than I make in 2 days! I quickly stop caressing the fabric and head toward Big Als Unbranded Clothes Discount Centre for a sweater within my budget range (which unfortunately will no doubt look as if it were knitted by my 5 year old Niece.) Sounds familiar? Well it really need not be this way. It actually amazes me how many people do not use wholesalers and government auctions to save money on just about anything they could ever wish to purchase. It's possible to get regular discounts of 50% and more on top brand items just by knowing WHERE to shop. Let us begin by looking at Government Auctions. While this article will focus on the USA and UK it's worth noting that government auctions are held in many other countries too. A government auction is held to auction off various items (often at rock bottom prices) that the government has legal ownership of. The type of items auctioned by various government agencies include vehicles, electronics, real estate, computers, jewellery and a lot more. In the UK, the types of government agencies that will offer up bargain goods and properties include the police and C&E - there are also private liquidation's due to corporate bankruptcies. Many hundreds of auctions are held yearly and there are scores of bargains to be had in most of them. It's not unusual to pickup a brand new widescreen TV at 30 or top spec PCs and laptops from a mere 200. It's possible to learn more here: http://www.global-ebooks.com/UKGovAuctions.htm In the USA there are also similar bargains to be had, and the government agencies often auction off cheap land and properties in addition to the usual range of electronics, vehicles and household goods. Just some of the bargains in recent times include assorted jewellery $600 in value being sold for just $20 and an actual house being sold at 50% below its market value. More information on government auctions in the USA is available here: http://www.global-ebooks.com/US_GOVERNMENT_AUCTIONS.htm So are there any catches? Surely not anyone can just turn up and help themselves to all the bargains that they can carry home? Well actually, that's just the way it is. Anyone can attend, you just need to know where and these auctions take place. Not a lot of people realise it, but it's also possible to pick up massive wholesale bargains, just by ordering goods from a good wholesaler. There is a lot of apprehension with a lot of people when it comes to buying from wholesalers - many people are afraid that they will get turned away, that wholesalers will only sell to huge retail stores with many thousands of dollars to spend. While some wholesalers do have minimum orders, many do not at all and will gladly accept orders from you and me. You can check out some really good wholesalers here: UK http://www.global-ebooks.com/UKWHOLESALEPAGES.htm USA http://www.global-ebooks.com/US_WHOLESALE_PAGES.htm So there you have it - a way to save a lot of money on just about anything that you want to buy. The best thing is that you can just as easily use this information to actually make money. How? eBay is the worlds biggest auction site by far, enjoying billions of page impressions per month (and this number is growing!). People will buy and sell almost anything on eBay, and some sellers have actually made selling on eBay their full time jobs. Many of them use the government and wholesale sources to buy stock cheap before reselling on eBay at good profit margins. Whether you're looking to save money or make money on top brand goods, wholesalers and government auctions are the way forward. Find out a list of auctions and wholesalers that you can visit and then just DO IT! You may well be pleasantly surprised with what you come home with. Balancing the Light and Dark
By Robert Morgen Integrating my dark side was a fairly torturous process for me, partly because I made it harder than it had to be. Apparently I do that a lot. :) One of the problems at the time was my inability to get out of my own way and I continually tried to micro-manage the process rather than giving in to it and going where it wanted to take me. Part of that was from my own misconceptions about the light and dark and my reactions to them. Many of us spend a long time trying to suppress the various elements of our light and dark sides partially because we're taught to believe that light is good and dark is evil as if the 2 extremes didn't exist in all of us. For example, a lot of healers tend to shy away from the dark side and when it does manifest it's usually in some context that the healer may be shocked by or ashamed of. Thereafter the healer may have a negative connotation with the dark side of their being. Sometimes these connotations can come from events that happen when we're small children or even possibly be hold-overs from past lives. It's important to find examples of the dark and light that can be manifested positively and enjoyably as everything has to balance and its unnatural for us to always be one or the other. Music, dance, theatre, movies, martial arts and sexuality are some of the ways that you can find positive examples of both the dark and the light. In reality you can find positive examples anywhere, these are some that I personally enjoy. This is where the self awareness part of kundalini awakening comes in. You have to know yourself well enough to become comfortable with all the aspects of your personality, and to find creative ways to balance your proclivities. If you spend all day giving reiki treatments and listening to soothing new age music then take some time in the evening and pop in a suitably dark movie or some nice dark music on the stereo. If you choose the music then turn off the lights, close your eyes and do some moving meditation and ecstatic dancing. You might be surprised at what youre able to clean out of your system this way. Whats important here is to learn to be comfortable with your dualities, and then get beyond them. This can be a journey of self discovery that can take you places that you didnt know you could go. --- Balancing the Light and Dark is an excerpt from Robert Morgens book Kundalini Awakening for Personal Mastery (ISBN: 0-9773801-0-6) His new book Easy Meditation for Martial Artists (ISBN: 0-9773801-3-0) will be available in October, 2006. Robert Morgen is a Reiki Master who holds a Black Belt in Hoshinjutsu. Hes founder of the Mystic Village Online Community at http://www.mysticvillage.org He writes a regular column on subtle (or internal) energy for Fight Times Magazine and a column on Kundalini Awakening at Alumbo.com. Painless Weight Loss - 10 Tips
By Kathy Ferneau Is dieting draining your energy? Worn out by menu planning, food preparation, and shopping? Here are 10 painless ways to boost your weight loss efforts without depriving yourself: 1. Drink green tea. Studies show you'll burn fat faster and speed your metabolism. Purchase a good brand at a health food store or on-line. Start with drinking one cup a day. 2. Cheat once in a while, once every one or two weeks. Eat what you've been missing the most. 3. Eat half a grapefruit as a mid-morning snack. It has less than 50 calories, is naturally sweet, and you'll feel satisfied until lunch time. Include a variety of fruits--apple slices, orange segments, seedless grapes--so you have something different to look forward to each day. 4. Decrease your milk fat content one level. Drinking 2% now? Go down to 1%. Try mixing the two at first if you really notice the difference. Or start by just using the lower fat milk in cooking, then replace it for drinking. 5. Write down everything you eat. Get a small spiral notebook and keep it in your purse or pocket. If you have to see it in print, you might not munch down on that brownie. 6. Season your food with a little more spice, including pepper, red pepper, hot sauce, salsa, Cajun, or Asian flavorings. You'll temporarily burn more calories and get more flavor with no fat. 7. Drink one cup of water before each meal. Your stomach will feel fuller before you even start eating. 8. Eat your meals on a salad plate. Your plate will look fuller and you will have less space to pile on food. 9. Eat next to a mirror. The site of yourself eating is not pretty. Consider mounting a mirror on your refrigerator door. 10. Wash the dishes, clean your kitchen, and brush your teeth after your evening meal. Once you've done all that work, you won't want to go through it all again. Throwing Your Romance Into High Gear
By Mary Jensen Once you've found Mr. or Mrs. Right, you want to throw the romance machine into high gear. You need to be careful though. As in driving, you want to let off the clutch slowly. If you don't, chances are high that the relationship will stall. You have some critical decisions to make. Here are your main options: Keep cruising at the same speed. This one is easiest. You keep the relationship the way it is, waiting for the other person to make the first move. There is a chance that they will pick up the vibe and initiate the next step. More likely, however, they are unsure of your feelings or afraid to take things to the next level. You risk the possibility of someone else coming into the picture and stealing them away. It may not be too late to get them back, but it will be a lot more difficult and you'll definitely have to shift up to the next gear. Let off the clutch too quickly. Do not jump the gun! Chances are, it will backfire. You don't want to stall the relationship. If this is the first time you've mentioned a lifetime commitment, it could very well scare them away. It may not kill the romance completely, but you'll have to tread carefully and work yourself back to the same speed before attempting to take it further. Let off the clutch slowly, easing into a higher gear. Ideally, this is what you want. Gradually show more interest, get a feel for what they want, and increase the intimacy. Not the physical kind, but the emotional and intellectual. You want to be very open with them, not putting pressure for a decision, but making it clear what you want. Yes, there's a chance they are not ready for a long-term or don't feel the same way about you. But you have the advantage in the fact that they know where you stand. You have planted the idea in their head. Whether they want to or not, they will consider your words. If they later decide they are ready for a serious relationship, it will be easy to pick up at the level you left off. There is always a chance that they blow you off completely and the relationship completely falls apart with no chance of getting back together. But you won't be left wondering if there was anything more you could have done. You are free to leave the doubts behind and move on. I've experience all of the above, from both sides of the relationship. Take my advice. Please, just let off the clutch slowly, for everyone involved. Mary W. Nursing Uniforms
By Dennis Driscoll Are Nursing Uniforms Required - And Do Some Hospitals Provide Them for Nurses? Nursing Uniforms have been a hot ticket item as of late. With the recent surge within the nursing profession, uniform sales have also been on the rise. Nursing uniforms are a necessity for all nurses regardless of where they work, so you can imagine what kind of demand has been placed on these outfits in recent years. In addition to individuals buying nursing uniforms, hospitals are also buying these uniforms in bulk for many of their nurses. Not all hospitals take up this practice, but the ones that do order up to a hundred uniforms at once. Additionally, a nurse needs more than one nursing uniform. During the course of a day, nurses will get their uniforms dirty and soiled; sometimes to a point beyond repair. At that time, it is always good to have a backup in place. Most nurses have a uniform for every day of the week that they work. In other words, if a nurse works four days a week, it might be a good idea to have four nursing uniforms. This way, you do not have to worry about getting your wash done on time, or running out of uniforms should something happen to the ones that you have. Again, some hospitals offer free nursing uniforms. This may not sound like much, but it can be a plus if you are required to have a certain amount of uniforms. If a hospital offers this service, it is something that they will use as a selling point in there efforts to land new nurses. Nursing uniforms have always been required, and probably always will be. People need to be able to identify these workers, so having them in a standard uniform is the best way of doing so. As long as the demand for nurses continues to rise, the demand for nursing uniforms will also climb. This is good news for the companies that manufacture nursing uniforms. Follow Homemade Beauty Tips For Beauty Is In Nature's Grips
By David Maillie Beautiful people of all ages have maintained that beauty is not as much reflected in the rosy, youthful look of the skin. When questioned about the secret to their beautiful skins, they have always attributed it to a healthy lifestyle and a few homemade beauty tips. Healthy lifestyle and homemade beauty tips are mostly based on the refreshing, detoxifying effects of natural and herbal products with the former fortifying the systems internal strength and the later protecting outwardly. Homemade beauty tips, as such, are based on judicial choice of herbal ingredients for external skin care. Some home-based natural skin care tips would be as follows: Buttermilk/cream and yogurt make excellent skin cleansers. After-bath application of almond oil is undoubtedly a great treat for the skin the suppleness and glow it brings to the skin is unmatched by even the very best of moisturizers. Regular application of honey or yogurt makes the skin soft and has a gentle bleaching effect. Sea salt/sugar mixed with olive oil works as an extraordinary at-home body exfoliation preparation. Different natural and herbal products like Aloe Vera, Basil, Chamomile, Lavender, Marshmallow, Neem, Oatmeal, Sandalwood, Tea tree oil, Turmeric, Witch Hazel, etc. used as facial packs often help to dispose dead cells and impurities lodged in the skin to unclog pores. Side by side playing the roles of cleansers, the natural produces and elements strike water-oil balance of the skin. If you find it too troublesome to go for natural skin treatments, the safest choice will be the TCA peels. The ready-to-be-used medically approved TCA peels have an answer for almost all skin problems right from acnes to wrinkles and skin pigmentations to dryness. With long lasting effects, TCA peels give back the skin its natural healthfulness. With no harmful side effects (nearing the gentleness of homemade beauty tips), TCA peels can be safely used for teen-age skin problems. Two is undoubtedly company but three is not always crowd. TCA peels, balanced diets and a few homemade beauty tips make enviable company when it comes to revitalizing the skin. Therefore, surrender to the cares of the threesome and be the proud possessor of a youthful skin and look! Glycemic Index: A Magic Weight Loss Solution or a Soap Bubble Ready to Burst?
By Rajesh Shetty Glycemic index ranks different carbohydrate foods depending on their potential to raise blood glucose levels. The ranking is on a scale from 0 to 100.Higher the Glycemic index, higher is the particular carbohydrates ability to effect a spike(rise) in blood glucose levels. Low-GI foods, by virtue of their slow digestion and absorption, produce gradual rises in blood sugar and insulin levels, and have benefits for health. Low GI diets have been shown to improve both glucose and lipid levels in people with diabetes (type 1 and type 2). This is as far as it goes about the use of glycemic index for weight loss. Popular diet books like the south beach diet are founded on the premise that the spike in blood glucose levels leads to more hunger and subsequent weight gain, whereas the foods with low GI have a tendency to delay the haunger or lower appetite, leading to weight loss, which is too simplistic, but ,not quite supported by scientific evidence. Read this excerpt taken from WebMD:
Experts Take On the Glycemic Index It sounds like a magic formula for dieters --but experts have long been saying there's no such thing. "If you don't have peaks and valleys in your glucose level then hunger should be kept at bay," says Kathleen Zellman, RD, a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association (ADA). "However, it's not that simple. It's also affected by meal size, whether there's any fat in the meal, and overall health status." "Glycemic index looks at individual foods -- not how that food might interact with another," says Connie Diekman, RD, an ADA spokesperson in St. Louis, Missouri. "If you eat a high glycemic index food with a protein, for example, it might be absorbed more slowly. ... That's the hang-up with glycemic index. Very few people will sit down and eat one high glycemic index food and then another. It's meals that we eat." Michael Jensen, MD, an endocrinologist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., says it's never been proven that high insulin levels -- which result when a high glycemic index food is eaten -- mean increased hunger. "When [you] work with patients who get real hungry between meals, you have to try a couple of different things. I'm not sure if it's glycemic index, the bulk of food, the content of food that gives [the sense of fullness] ... I also have them consider adding protein and modest amounts of fat to decrease overeating between meals." All the researchers are unanimous in that, it's the fiber content of the diet that is more important for controlling diabetes and weight gain than the Glycemic Index.Read the exerpts of a new research document from WebMD,.... New research shows that when it comes to type 2 diabetes, not all carbohydrates are created equal. Tufts University researchers report that eating whole-grain foods, especially fiber-rich cereals, appears to improve insulin sensitivity and lower the risk of the metabolic syndrome. Whole-grain foods have already been found to help protect against heart disease and certain cancers, and the newly published study is one of several that indicates there is a protective role for whole grains against a constellation of major risk factors that lead to metabolic syndrome -- a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and the development of type 2 diabetes. "Unless you're a diabetic, glycemic index may not be all that important," says Jack Alhadeff, PhD, professor of biochemistry at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. , who adds that since most of us eat a variety of foods in a meal, the accuracy of the index can be questionable. But what about the notion that glucose from high-index foods is more likely to be stored as fat? "The scientific literature is very clear that eating carbohydrates that are embedded in plant cellulose -- complex carbohydrates -- is always better," says Nagi Kumar, PhD, director of clinical nutrition at the Moffitt Cancer Center and professor of human nutrition at the University of South Florida in Tampa. "But the reasons it is better are not because it somehow lessens or alters fat storage." All this leads one to conclude that the importance of fiber is far more that Glycemic index for dieters. The weight loss programs like many low carb diets and the popular south beach diet are only trying to exploit the limited scientific data on Glycemic Index to sell their diet wares. A diet rich in fibre has many advantages like: Fiber can help you avoid overeating. It has been found that fiber can bind with cholesterol in the digestive tract, thus lowering blood cholesterol. Another important point about fiber-rich foods is that they tend to be loaded with phytochemicals that appear to have anticancer functions, along with these benefits and its role in weight maintenance, fiber helps prevent the following: Constipation Hemorrhoids Appendicitis Diverticulosis -- an intestinal disease where pockets, which can become infected, develop in the intestinal lining. A diet program which recommends fiber rich foods and is loaded with healthy and natural weight loss alternatives to the foods recommended by the fad diets is the only alternative to safe and sure weight loss. Looking For the Perfect Handset? Look No Further
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Adam_Jaylin]Adam Jaylin Mobile phones, very much like films, are something regarding which each one of us have our fair share of opinions and criticism. Such is the fickle nature of individual choice that you wont even blink before trashing a handset that might just have received the Oscar from the mobile phone industry! The point one is trying to put across is the dangerous trend of people buying handsets after going through umpteen mobile phone reviews that have been posted on the net by amateur writers. Most of these are written for marketing purposes by people who are interested only in selling their products, in this case mobiles, to gullible people who are always under the impression that they are reading unbiased views of the users. All the mobile phone review sites and forums may not be infested by spamming agents but there is almost no way to differentiate between an honest review and a fabricated one. Best place to look for mobile phone reviews are comparison sites. On the mobile phone comparison sites the webmaster will publicise only those handsets that are gaining popularity amongst the buyers and are more likely to sell. This will ensure that more and more people will purchase handsets from retailers through the links hosted on that comparison site! This is a simple symbiotic process where the [http://www.ukonlinemarket.co.uk/mobile/]mobile phone comparison portal will make profit only if it provides the users good deals complete with good handsets and fair deals. In the bargain you will actually get to know what the handset is all about in the review content of the mobile phone. So be discerning before anyone trusting the word of the net, it can turn out to be a web of deceit instead! Adam Jaylin is the [http://www.ukonlinemarket.co.uk]price comparison expert at UK OnlineMarket and is an authority on mobile phones. The Good Old Days
By Katherine Westphal Some moments are worth savoring. As I write this, I am outdoors with the sun gently warming my skin. A gentle breeze is caressing my face. The air is fragrant with the blossoms on my peach and plum trees. My sons are giving Thomas the Tank Engine a ride down the slide. My daughter and her friend are playing "Ice Cream Shoppe". It is simply one of those perfect moments. A couple of years ago we might have missed a moment like this. Like many others, we would probably have been watching TV, even though it was a gorgeous day outside. WHERE HAVE THE "GOOD OLD DAYS" GONE? It's funny how the critics lament the passing of the "good old days". They wonder what happened to communities, neighborhoods, civic virtue, or family values. Pundits rant at the right and the left, blaming each or the other. Yet, the biggest change over the last two generations has been the advent of television. In two generations TV has grown to suck up over four hours of peoples' time per day. No other social change comes close to this shift. It eats up about half of individuals' free time. What did people do with those four hours a day before the television came along? They spent time with the neighbors, with their families, and with their communities. The "good old days" were simply sucked into the television set. The fastest way to get them back is to get rid of your TV. TV ISOLATES US TV does not unite us. It does not bring us together in any meaningful way, although it is sometimes portrayed that way. The physical act of watching TV isolates us from one another. We don't chat over dinner. We are plugged into the TV set. We don't visit the neighbors. We watch "Friends". We don't play ball with our children. We watch the "Playoffs". We can not enjoy the warmth of the sun, if we are indoors watching TV. We cannot savor the beauty of nature if we are parked on a safa watching TV. "Nature" and "National Geographic" can not compare with the real thing. Most importantly, we can not enjoy one another's company if our attention is locked on the TV screen. TV always demands our full attention. COMMUNITES OF TV's There can be a room full of people, but if a TV is playing, everyone will be plugged into the set, mesmerized by the flickering lights. Watch it. Watch a party be ground to a halt by a TV. That is what is happening on a larger scale with our communities. There are communities full of people, all ignoring each other as they are plugged into their TV. Drive around almost any community at night. Are people gathered in groups gossiping and having fun with one another? More likely, you will pass by a plethora of isolated houses with eerie lights flickering through the windows. From a distance those lights are downright creepy. PROBLEMS ARE SOLVED AND RELATIONSHIPS BUILT Get a taste of the "good old days" by turning off the TV. It is not that problems vanish when you turn OFF the TV. Problems do not vanish any more than they do when the TV is ON. My idyllic scene was disrupted shortly after I descibed it by the kids' bickering. However, they resolved their differences and started playing in the sandbox. That is the key. They were still interacting and could resolve their problems. Turning off the TV frees them to solve their problems and to grow in their relationships. I have studied history extensively. I know full well that the past is full of pain and suffering as well as joy. People have also made great strides in many social issues over the past several decades. Yet, we lost something critical to our existance when we plugged in the TV and left it on for over four hours a day. We lost the time that used to go to building relationships, to loving, to living, and to connecting with each other. BACK TO THE FUTURE Go back to the "good old days" by turning off your TV. Turn it off and play outdoors with your family. Go for a walk. Invite the neighbors over for a barbeque. Host a family game night. Read with your children. All these activities are relaxing and build essential relationships. They are also things people used to do in the "good old days". Going back is as simple as pushing a button--the OFF button. Katherine Westphal is the founder of a daring new website Trash Your TV! (http://www.trashyourtv.com) that makes it fun and easy for people to get control of their TV set. Are you addicted to TV? Take our TV Addiction Quiz (http://www.trashyourtv.com/survey) and find out! The Two Types of Student Consolidation Loans
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jeanette_Pollock]Jeanette Pollock In todays world, education is undoubtedly important. These days, it is incredibly difficult to succeed unless you have had some sort of education. Unfortunately, education is now also quite expensive, which is why students have to take out many loans to finance their way to school. For some student, paying off their loans is no big deal, especially if they land a great job right after college. However, many graduates are not as fortunate. If by some twist of fate these graduates are unable to find a good job, or perhaps become underemployed, interest charges on these loans can compound quickly, creating a financial crisis. For those who have a hard time paying off their student loans, student loan consolidation is the answer. By merging all existing loans into a single loan with the lowest possible interest rate, the process of repayment will be made simpler and less burdensome. This also minimizes the possibility of missing a payment and incurring penalties. There are two main types of student consolidation loans, federal student loans and private student loans. Federal student loans are the most affordable options available to students, as they generally offer lower rates than the average loan. As the name suggests, these loans are provided by the government. Because they are subsidized by government as part of its educational assistance to students, they are easy to procure and sport student-friendly interest rates. Private student loans, also known as personal student loans or alternative student loans are loans with a comparatively high interest rate, especially when juxtaposed with a federal student loan. As the name implies, these loans can only be procured from private institutions. Unlike federal student loans, private loans are harder to obtain. Because interest rates are much lower with federal student loans than with private student loans, you are generally better off with the former. From Breakup To Bliss - Baby Step Goals
By Randy Hurlburt A few months ago a client whose love life was going nowhere asked the question: "Why are we living if there's nowhere to go?" Since time immemorial, sages, priests, monks, and philosophers have tried to answer this question, and have come up with many different answers. There probably is no "ultimate" answer to this question, so it appears that each of us must ask ourselves what matters to us. Then we can set goals, whether they are 1 year, 5 year, 10 year, or lifetime goals. Based on the goals we can decide on action steps. Because we can't be sure if we'll live another 5 years, the best we can do is be happy with each step. This is called "living in the now." Living in the now also allows for changes to the long-term goals as we learn more during the process of taking action steps. Thus unrealistic goals become realistic goals, and the nature of subsequent action steps may change. But the basic attitude of being happy taking one step at a time is the key. This is what's known as "the joy is in the journey." In relationships, it often seems that the progress toward our goals is distressingly slow ("going nowhere"). Here the concept of "baby steps" is important. People don't like to change, and they don't like to be changed. But if a relationship is to grow, both parties will probably need to change. She may want him to be more emotionally expressive, or to be more considerate of her feelings. He may want her to be more adventurous sexually, or to be more accepting of his interest in sports. Not all relationships will progress in a positive direction, of course. But observing whether or not there is progress, and the rate of such progress, is key to deciding if the relationship is worth the effort. Those relationships that do progress have a good chance of success, as long as both people recognize that it will be slow and sometimes painful. I have had this experience frequently with my fiance. Every few months we seem to come to a crisis point and have a discussion about something that one or the other doesn't like and wants to change. Sometimes we feel like we have reached the limit and it will be the end of the relationship (a scary thing). But we always manage to set small, incremental goals, each of us giving something that the other wants but that has previously been outside our limits. For instance, at one time when she was feeling insecure about the relationship and I was feeling unloved, I agreed to spend more time with her and she agreed to be more openly affectionate. We both kept this bargain, the relationship continued, and we felt good about how it progressed. We have had dozens of such small conversations (they always seem big at the time), and the resulting incremental baby step progress has brought us to where we are now. Think about your relationship. What would you like right now from your partner? (Be specific, and choose something small.) What would your partner like from you? (Think of something that's hard for you to give.) Then when you have almost reached your limit (but before crossing it), initiate a discussion. Express your needs and ask for his or her needs. Be loving and supportive. Be willing to negotiate, be open to ideas you hadn't thought of, and be prepared to end the relationship on a constructive note if several such discussions prove unfruitful. Part of the problem is societal expectations. From fairy tales to movies to magazines we are spoon-fed the goal of the happily ever after monogamous marriage. The truth is that most marriages are neither happy nor monogamous, but we keep searching for that ideal. And we expect it to come easily (with the other person being the only one to change.) What's important is to take our baby steps in such a way that they move us towards an incremental increase in emotional fulfillment without giving up the ideal as an ultimate concept. In this way various "non-ideal" states of the relationship can be OK during the journey. This mode of thinking helps to promote happiness with the baby steps. There's a quote from Carlos Casteneda that I like: "All paths lead nowhere: a path with "heart" is a strong path." If you follow a path with heart, baby step by baby step, you will be happily secure that you are "going somewhere." On the edge of a breakup? Want more love (and better sex)? Everything You Need To Know About Buying The Perfect Bird Bath
By Tracie M. Loewe If you are a nature lover but yet find yourself living in a small space, you may think that you have to settle for the sounds of the birds and the wind that gently seep through your open window. However if you like you can add other elements to your life that will let you feel closer to nature. Now you can do this by adding a bird bath to your garden. Since a bird bath is something that offers soothing effects when one sits near it watching all of the birds enjoy a soak in the sun, you will want to ensure the bird bath you select matches the dcor of your surroundings as well as continues to add to the calming balance of your yard. You can do this in several different ways, and the first place to start is at your local stores. You must not believe that one needs to settle for the only one you find at the first store you go to, as in the long run you may end up regretting the decision. Though a bird bath may seem like an easy purchase bear in mind that if the design is something you are simply settling for, you will end up wanting to replace it when you could have avoided that all together. Therefore always ensure to visit multiple stores and see what designs they all have to offer before making a final decision on the one you are going to buy. As for those you are interested in buying one but you do not own property because of living in an apartment, lose no hope! Perhaps you may have a decent sized balcony or patio, just about any type of bird bath should fit perfectly for you. And those who are limited to inside space, you will be able to find small versions that can be placed on a window sill or that can be placed just outside a front or back door. Finally if you are set on buying a bird bath, you should be able to find one for any size location of your choice. Bird baths are also wonderful for children. They enjoy interacting with nature and if they are able to sit near a bird bath and watch the wildlife they will be excited. This is a great way to unwind and also can become a focal point for the family each night. For a lot of people their gardens are their safe haven and adding a bird bath to it benefits the entire family. Just by sitting in the stillness and listening to the sounds of the birds can do away the stress of your day. Truly, the beauty of nature is simply wondrous and having the chance to interact with it should never be passed up. Tracie M. Sick of Kissing Frogs? Obey These Four Laws to Find True Client Love
By Kelly O'Brien As in dating, the laws of attraction, permission, trust, and commitment rule when it comes to successful marketing and sales. Obey them, and youll find true client love for your business. These laws are sequential, building one on the other in this order. And they apply to everything your marketing and sales teams do whether its online, offline, in person, by phone, in print, or through media. Attraction. Be magnetic! Package your solution, offer, look, feel, price and experience in a way thats irresistible. Make your buyer feel theyd be missing out if they pass you up. Attracted buyers are intrigued and want to know more. They dont feel interrupted or annoyed that you distracted them. This also means being clear about your type talk, dark and mysterious or blond and sporty? Screen out tire kickers by being irresistible to only those frogs that are most likely to turn into princes for your unique business. Do your homework, narrow your target market, and make everything you do attractive for that particular profile. Permission. Its the difference between walking hand-in-hand into the sunset vs. dragging your date by the hair back to your cave. This is why most cold calls, spam, ads and direct mail dont work theyre way too intimate a touch, out of context, and dont invite a permission-based response. Once you catch a buyers attention, they need to signal interest for the sale to progress. Make a small offer and let your buyer take a first step. Think of getting a wild animal (or frog) to eat out of your hand. You have to place tasty morsels far from you, wait for them to be gobbled up, and slowly place more goodies closer to you, over time. This takes patience, but make no mistake - permission creates efficiency, allowing you to focus and make better use of resources. Trust. You wont get past a first date without building trust. Buyers must trust that you have their interests in mind over yours. That you can do what you promise and have staying power. Dont ask for access, information or buying decisions too soon. Why should they give you their phone number to download your free article? All they want to do is learn about youto gain confidence that you can help them. Let them lurk at arms length for a while, maybe by opting-in to your e-newsletter. Let them see if you have staying power, so hold their interest and dont waste their time. If they like what they see, youll get their permission to interact more directly. Commitment. If youve gotten this far, youre doing something right. But commitment is a process, not an event or moment in time. Gain respect, based on solid performance and deepening trust, and commitment will grow. Start small and build from there they might make an initial commitment to you in the form of a small purchase, but if you dont continue to perform, it stops there. Smart buyers, no matter how long youve been together, wont give you unconditional commitment if you blow it. Be careful not to violate the permission, trust, and respect youve earned. Ignore these laws, and youre throwing marketing and sales dollars down the drain. At a minimum, your sales, marketing, and all customer-facing staff must understand, internalize, and act on them. Ideally, your whole organization gets it, with your senior management team leading the way. 2004 TurningPointe Marketing, Inc. All rights reserved. Brain Injury Associations
By Elizabeth Morgan Millions of people all over the world receive a brain injury each year. In the United States alone, more than 1.5 million people suffer a traumatic brain injury each year. With such a large number of people suffering from TBI, it is vital that there are support groups to help patients cope with their disabilities and provide encouragement for rehabilitation. Today, there are hundreds of such places that research and help patients suffering from all types of brain injury each year. Brain injury associations cover just about every aspect of brain injury. They include people from several fields of activity that keep each other informed, help each other, and, most importantly, help the individuals suffering from brain injury. A main function of many of these groups is to conduct brain injury prevention research. Of course, the most successful brain injury prevention is researching new protection for car accident victims. Security and protection for people have evolved over the years, leading to fewer cases of severe brain injury each year. This combined with an increase in recovery for several patients proves that such organizations are needed and work. The second goal of Brain Injury Associations refers to people that suffered injuries. These associations aim to secure a better life for them by providing the best health care possible. Usually treatment for patients consists of medicine and, in most cases, rehabilitation, both physical and psychological. To sum up, brain injury associations work to help people recover as best as it is possible. The third goal of these organizations refers to the legal aspect of brain injuries. In most cases, brain injury occurs because of an accident, most of the time a motor vehicle accident, and the one injured may not be at fault. Lawyers specializing in brain injury cases represent these victims and help them receive compensation for their injuries. Brain injury associations conduct useful research, provide support and rehabilitation, and provide legal help for victims of traumatic brain injuries. Brain Injury Lawyers provides detailed information about brain injury lawyers, anoxic brain injury, brain injury associations, and more. Brain Injury Lawyers is affiliated with Personal Injury Lawyers Chicago. Help! My Kids are Overweight!
By D. Keuilian If you have recently found yourself fretting over your childs waistline, you are not alone. The youth of today are fatter than ever before, and parents are starting to panic. Why are our kids so big, and what should we do about it? Childhood obesity has been described as an epidemic. It puts our childrens health at risk, making them more susceptible to problems involving their cardiovascular systems, endocrine systems, and even their mental health. Type 2 diabetes mellitus, depression, and low self-esteem are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the problems looming over the heads of our overweight children. It is ironic that both the problem and the solution to this heavy problem boil down to one simple equation. Energy In vs. Energy Out. When more energy is consumed than is utilized, the result is fat storage. In short, our kids eat too much and do too little. Energy In The Problem: Parents today are busier than ever before, navigating through hectic schedules with convenient fast food restaurants lurking on every corner. Our kids are eating more fried, processed, and sugary foods than we did as children due mainly to the convenience factor. These foods are laden with excessive calories that result in weight gain. The Solution: Take time to evaluate your childrens diet. Do they eat three balanced meals a day? Do they eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day? Are they limited in their servings of fried, processed, and sugary foods? Avoid buying sugar-filled snacks while grocery shopping, fill your cart with fresh, healthy snacks instead. Make time to plan family meals so that you dont find yourself in another drive thru. Energy Out The Problem: Computers, video games, and satellite T.V. are our childrens latest and greatest toys. Who has time to play outside when you are about to beat the hardest level, or your favorite show is about to start? Our kids participate in less physical activity and are more sedentary than any generation before. The Solution: Limit the time your children spend on sedentary activities, such as T.V and video games. Sign your kids up on a local sports team so that they can run and be active with other kids. Take the whole family to the park on a weekend instead of gathering in front of the T.V. As a parent, it is your unique responsibility to teach your children the healthy habits that lead to good health. Children who are obese have a greater chance of remaining obese into adulthood, thus greatly increasing the likelihood of serious health problems. Talk to your children about their eating habits, and activity levels, informing them of good choices versus bad choices. Make it a family effort to start eating healthier and increase physical activities, and you will be pleasantly surprised with the results!
